New group project: Noro Squared blanket

>Hello all,
We have decided to create a Noro Squared blanket for our fund raising effort for charity. Yarn has been purchased and we have had our first meeting.
Thanks to our sponsor, Library HR. mtc

>For those who missed today's session - It's pretty straightforward, but there are a few things to take note of:

1) The double decreases start one stitch before the centre stitch, i.e., on the first decrease row you will be knitting 34, doing the double decrease and then knitting 34 to the end of the row. Each double decrease row has you knitting or purling the same number of stitches on either side of the decrease.

2) The pattern wants you to slip your stitches together and pass them over together. Even though this is fiddly - the only way to get the desired effect is to do them together as stated. It's easier to try slipping one at a time and then passing them over one at a time, but the results won't be what you want.

3) Row 3 of the pattern has you working the double decrease on the purl side and "slipping 2 stitches together through the back loop as if to purl." Again - fiddly, but necessary to make the effect we want. If you don't know how to do this please check in with Edita, me or anyone you know who was able to attend today. Hopefully we'll be able to make it come clear ;-)

If this pattern winds up being trickier than we think then we can definitely schedule another meeting for next week or the week after at latest. Please let me know if you'd like another meeting soon and I'll send out another meeting wizard to set that up.

Happy knitting! SP

>Thank you knitters for braving the rain to pick up your yarn and to Shawnna for clarifying the instructions in the pattern. We are on our way to create another colourful blanket. I can hardly wait to see the result.

Just a note on needle size: I did my square with 5 mm needles and it is about 20 x 20 cm - the size we are looking for. If you are a tight or loose knitter, try another needle size to get the measurements.

I also found some YouTube videos for the decreases:

Knitted hug for Japan

Hello knitters,

I came across this DanDoh [Warm Earth] scarf pattern while surfing the net and thought I'd share it with you.

It's designed by a Japanese designer as a way of connecting with her people during this difficult time.

Looks quite attractive and is easy to knit.

Enjoy, EM

New group project idea

Hi knitters,

I found another type of blanket in my internet wanderings.

There is a copy at my desk, if you want to have a look.

I will be there on Feb.24th to brainstorm with you.

Edita

Another knitted lace scarf success!

Winnie N. also completed her lace scarf. Beautiful!

New group project idea

Hi,

I don't know how far we are with ideas but, just in case, I thought this mitered square quilt block looked like it had potential. The knitting is pretty basic but it's the colours and how they are organized that will make all the difference. Psychedelic Squares Afghan: Stocking St Version.
